Wednesday, February 02, 2011 – Day of Blessings!

Today has been filled to the brim with blessings!
Blessing #1: I went to Cure hospital this morning for my knee and it is nothing serious. Praise God!  Apparently, it is common for young women to get the knee problem I have.  The cartilage between my knee cap and joint are soft, like most women’s.  Often times, when someone does a lot of irregular exercise the knee cap shifts up or down, side to side.  The pain I am feeling is the knee cap moving when I walk.  The good news is I will not need surgery.  The bad news is it is going to take a while for it to completely get better.  The doctor recommended that I go to physical therapy to learn some exercises that will help it and to take a supplement that will strengthen the cartilage.  He warned that it will take two or three weeks for the supplement and therapy to work but that it will eventually go away.  Hallelujah!

Blessing #2: The kids seemed more expectant and excited to see us today at Queens.  I am feeling more comfortable being there and talking to the patients and family members.  We visited the Pediatric Burn Unit and that broke my heart.  The hospital staff used PVC pipe to build a cube to put over the children so the blankets would not touch them, but they would stay warm.  Some of the children had arms wrapped, their torso wrapped, and others had half their face covered.  We did not get to spend as much time as we wanted in the ward because the nurses came to change the dressings.  As we walked out of the unit we could hear the crying of children already getting their dressings peeled off.  My heart went out to them.

At lunch we went to a nearby store to get bread and peanut butter, because Kelsey and I wanted peanut butter sandwiches but because we did not have any to spread the peanut butter, we also bought cookies and did the best we could to spread it.  It was a tasty lunch! J

We then went back into the hospital and hung out with the kids in the playroom.  There were a lot more kids this time and they were more excited to play with us.  We had circle time where Simon shared the story of Creation and James, Kelsey and myself took turns reading them books in English.  After that we played more.  One little boy really liked playing with Legos so I built him a tower.  I also watched Yamikani and Paul play the game Connect Four and it was hilarious! They did not realize that you could not only win having four up and down or side to side, but diagonal as well!

Blessing #3: Then we came home and got furniture!  Althea, one of our friends, has to loan out some furniture for a while because she has to get her flooring redone.  We get to use the furniture for a couple months for free which is great!  We only had beds, nightstands, a table and three chairs.  We were thinking about buying a few pieces because our house is bare and we are going to be entertaining guests next week.

Blessing #4: Our ceiling was fixed so no more raining in the dinning room or family room!

Blessing #5: The hot water pump was fixed so now we have hot water! I got to take a hot American shower and it was truly like experiencing a little piece of Heaven!

Our power went out for about ten minutes because of the wind storm outside.  We had to flee to our safety bubbles, literally, our mosquito net over our beds because the mosquitoes go rampant at night.  But it was only for a short time and the power came back on, then we went back to our borrowed, pink, Lazy-Boy chairs!
